Following his swim career, Steve began coaching at Cardinal Hill, Georgetown Day School, and Marshall High School. In 2016 he was appointed the head varsity swim coach for Marshall where he led the team for four seasons. He also served as the head JV baseball coach at Marshall for two seasons. Steve has been coaching with Cardinal Hill since 2012 and has served as assistant and associate head coach since 2014. He also runs the Cardinal Hill Masters program and has coached private lessons since he was 16 years old.
Steve’s love of coaching has led him to pursue a full time career in the field. In 2022, he joined Machine Aquatics as a full time coach at the Madeira site. He now serves as the head Age Group coach for the Madeira site, overseeing one of the largest and most competitive age group swim programs in the area.
Steve’s coaching philosophy is to balance the mental aspect of sports with the physical and technical to ensure everyone he coaches enjoys coming to practice every day. His background in education and understanding of psychology allows him to instruct swimmers in a clear and a positive way from which all types of athletes can learn. Steve strives to make all swimmers feel welcome. His enthusiasm and positivity are infectious with all those around him. His balanced philosophy and his love for coaching has earned the trust of his swimmers and is a favorite coach at all age levels.

She looks forward to sharing her enthusiasm and dedication with you as a member of our coaching staff.
This summer Rebecca Berg will be returning to the Cardinal Hill swim team as a third-time coach. Rebecca has been a proud member of the team for thirteen years and also swam for her high school varsity swim team for four years. Shortly after becoming a Cardinal Hill lifeguard, she taught individual and mini cardinal group swim lessons for two summers. She loved helping future Cardinals develop their swimming skills. This past year, she was also a dedicated Snowbirds swim coach. In her free time, Rebecca enjoys running, playing soccer, and volunteering. She loves working with kids through elementary school mentoring programs and of course swim lessons. Rebecca hopes to encourage both new and returning swimmers to make the most out of their summer swim season and make as many awesome memories as she did. She can’t wait for the epic summer ahead.
